Mikooka Projects is a New York-based production company founded by Mika Orr, an award-winning filmmaker, working as a writer, director, and producer of fiction and documentary projects. Her work focuses on the intersections of identity, migration, fantasy, and intercultural convergence.

Making her first film at age 15, Orr began her career as an independent film director when she was 18. She was the lead cinematographer on the award-winning feature documentaries “Chronicle of a Kidnap” and “Stains.” She has had numerous documentaries broadcast on Israeli National Television and was the cinematographer / director of a BTS documentary of Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman’s directorial debut “A Tale of Love and Darkness.”

At age 22, Orr became the Creative Director of the New Media Department of the biggest studio in Israel, Herzliya Studios.

In 2008, Orr established her own production company, Mikooka Productions, and directed hundreds of branded content videos for clients such as Google Israel, Coca Cola, the European Union, and the Tel Aviv Municipality; documentaries and educational films for clients like Yad Vashem and The Israeli Museum; and music / dance videos for leading Israeli and international artists such as Marina Maximilian, 2CELLOS, Nouvelle Vogue (French), Alon Olearchik, and Sharon Eyal.

In May 2017, Orr earned a master’s degree with honors from School of Visual Arts in New York. Her short film and thesis project “Professional Cuddler” was officially selected to screen at over 35 film festivals around the world and has won nine awards.

In 2020, Orr released the short drama film “DUET,” which has been officially selected to screen at over 25 film festivals and won eight awards.

In 2022, Orr released her project #AMiNORMAL - a documentary/animation comedic web series about the human effort to define “normal.” The series (premiered at IDFA) was a co-production with ARTE, a French/German television channel, and Kan, the Israeli public broadcaster.

Currently, Orr is working on her first feature-length documentary film following the lives of three displaced children around the world. The story will be told solely from the children’s perspectives, shot over the span of more than two years in Uganda, Colombia, and Germany.
